Break Resistant Ceramic Honing Rods

These ceramic honing rods are super fine which gives a great edge, but the real story here is that they are as close to unbreakable as a ceramic rod can get.

At Knifewear we were sceptical to say the least when we received our sample of these honing rods. before using it we decided to test the unbreakableness. Tentatively I dropped it from the counter. It bounced. Good. Then we dropped it 5-6 more times with the same unbroken result. Amazing. Next I threw it at the tiled floor a number of times, but became frightened that the tiles would break. Eventually we did break it by dropping it onto the tiles from 7 feet above. I think we dropped the hone 20-25 times before it finally broke. We were more than amazed.

The secret to this ceramic rods near unbreakability is down to the construction. The tip, the handle and the core of the rod are all made of rubber. The rubber does an amazing job of absorbing shocks. They are simply remarkable. I don't suggest throwing these around, but they should be more than capable of handling the odd drop from the counter and a bit of rough handling.

Just 3-6 strokes on each side of the blade brings your knife edge back to life. I like to use the strop after just to add an extra level of refinement. The strop makes every edge feel silkier and that's what we like.
